ROUTE 66

These photos were taken along Route 66 from Los Angeles to Chicago. I joined architect Andrew Kovacs as he transported a model his office made for the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
Life of a Model, a film I made, documents the process of the model being built and is currently on view at the Chicago Architecture Biennial, playing on the model itself, through January 7, 2018.

While the idea of Route 66 holds a wistful grasp on American character, it was, like most things we purport to care about, abandoned for the sake of progress. These photos, captured on 35mm and 120 film, aim to confront the nostalgia built around what we culturally discard, on a medium that was almost lost to the same idea of progress.
