GRAN MELIÁ PALACIO DE LOS DUQUES
Infused with warm Latin character, Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts are prestigious properties located in some of the world’s leading escape destinations, representing more than half a century of luxury hotel experience.
In addition, Gran Meliá’s signature RedGlove Service combines the traditional white glove and red carpet concepts with the inherently Spanish passion for service, underpinned by consistent excellence.
Located in the centre of Madrid de los Austrias, Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques is a few minutes’ walk from the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre), Puerta del Sol, Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace. The famous streets of Serrano, Velázquez, Goya and Paseo de la Castellana are within close proximity of the hotel.
The property was previously a palace and home to the Dukes of Granada de Ega and Villahermosa, patrons of Velázquez, as well as members of Madrid’s intellectual circles in the mid-nineteenth century.
Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques is dedicated to renowned Spanish artist, Velázquez, who had lifelong bonds with Madrid as Philip III and Philip IV’s court painter. The five star property features recreations of some of Velázquez’s most famous paintings.
Occupying a historic Madrid building, which brings together aspects of the Santo Domingo Convent and the palace of the Duke and Duchess of Granada de Ega y Villahermosa, Gran Meliá perfectly combines classic elegance with contemporary luxury. A rooftop terrace and pool opens in summer exclusively to guests to take in the beauty of historic Madrid.
The chromatic colour palette, made up of whites, greys and golds, captures the history of the building whilst ensuring that it has a modern feeling of comfort. High quality materials have been used throughout the hotel, such as aged oak floors, Italian designed furniture and glass shelves stacked with modern art pieces. The bedrooms feature spectacular views over Madrid’s most historical monuments.
The hotel’s signature restaurant is located inside the original Duke of Granada’s Palace Mews. With a menu designed by the award-winning Spanish chefs, the Torres brother, the signature restaurant features innovative Spanish cuisine.
